Lokve - 4-day PD camp
4-day camp for people with Parkinson's disease and their caregivers, held at Lokve, small village in West Slovenia. At this camp, participants gain additional knowledge about PD and how to live with it. Parkinson's Disease: Progress and Promise in Stem Cell Research
Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nearly a million people in the United States. The symptoms include tremors, slow movement, muscle rigidity and less facial expression. No cure exists for the disease and current medications become less effective over time. William Langston, CEO and scientific director of the Parkinson's Institute, discusses stem cell-based research strategies to better understand the disease and to find new therapies. The Parkinson's Institute has an Early Translation grant from CIRM.

Preparing for WPC: Scotland, Here I Come 2010
Created on May 29, 2010 using FlipShare.The story of 2 quilt squares I created for the World Parkinson's Congress in Scotland 2010 Carpe Diem: Seize the Day (Panel 2157) The Day I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, I did not know what to think or feel. I had gone to the neurologist expecting him to tell me that I was working too hard and to take it easy. It was just a simple tremor. That's all. I was only 49. I didn't even really know what Parkinson's was, really. Not really. But when he, a friend and colleague, apologized and told me what he thought, I went dead for a moment. I found myself wishing it was cancer...or heart disease...something that would take me fast. I changed then. For the better really. I started to look at things, and people, differently....Life differently. I am a health care professional -- I look at patients differently. Now, I am the patient. This has been a blessing. And this panel says it all. So, those of you reading this statement now, go home, kiss your loved ones, and make a Bucket List. NOW. Forget the Parkinson blues... Sing! (WPC 2010)
My submission for the WPC video contest: "The World Parkinson Congress 2010 is hosting a video competition to help raise awareness about Parkinson's and to put a face on the disease. This is about raising awareness, getting people involved, and having a little fun at the same time." When you've got a neurodegenerative disease your attitude really can make a difference. Don't be a victim, never stop fighting. Stay positive even when you are facing a problem. Choose activities you like to do, only then they will work for you. I've got Parkinson for nearly 20 years, yet I am enjoying my life.
